Viki's Heart

Well, my heart was broken 4 months ago when my husband passed away. He was only 51 years old and had hardening of the arteries which caused lack of oxygen to get to the heart.

I am older than he was...62 years old. I just came from the cardiologist to get my heart checked out and I am told I have mitral regurgitation. The doctor did not use that word and said it was only a little blood leaking backward thru the valve and so I looked it up online. He does not want to see until January again and he told me I would not have a heart attack. Two females on the staff knew I was worried but told me they had mild cases too. I do not know if they trying to make me feel it was very common and help me not to worry but irregardless, I am still worried. Especially since the doctor said my heart looked normal except for the leak...I had a stress test and echocardiagram.

Can anyone out there help me clarify more what is going on? How common is it really and should I be worried? The doctor did say he wanted to keep an eye on it and that is why I am going back in January. Thanks so much for your help out there. Sincerely, Viki
